Firewise Your Property

Kittitas County Fire District #8

Dear Kachess Property Owner,

This year has the potential of being one of the most devastating years for wildfires in history.  With the lowest snow pack in memory and the governor already declaring a drought in Eastern Washington, now is the time to Firewise your property to help protect it from fire.

To Firewise your property means to clear and remove and dead vegetation or debris laying about, remove any dead trees that are still standing, limb low hanging branches from trees, clear and brush that is close to your residence, make sure that firewood is not stacked next to your home or under the deck, remove branches that hand over your roof, and to basically create a defensible space around your home and property to prevent the spread of wildfire.

Within the Kachess Community, ACC regulations control much of this type of activity and please remember to refer to the ACC regulations before starting this work and to contact the ACC for approval of such actions.

Remember that there is no outdoor burning of any kind allowed within the Kachess Community and that when a burn ban is implemented, that the burn ban includes charcoal BBQs.

To help assist the community members in reducing the threat of wildfire, the KCA Board of Directors has agreed to again hold a community clean up debris collection time period where vegetation debris can be deposited in the parking lot below the clubhouse and the KCA will pay to have it chipped or hauled away.

For more information on how to Firewise your property or other fire prevention information, please contact Kittitas County Fire District 8.  We will be happy to speak with you or perform an educational tour of your property with suggestions of what each of you can do to help reduce the risk of wildfire damaging your property.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Monty L. Moore
