Urgent Water News

October 31, 2008

Hello Kachess Community Friends,

Here we go again!

We believe we have another leak on our hands. We suspect it is a large leak because of the speed at which we ran out of water. Unfortunately, we ran out before we were able to locate the leak. Therefore, at 11 AM, this morning, we had Dan Riblett close the water valves to the community. We expect to be without water all weekend.

We must fill up the water tanks with a significant amount of water before we can open the valves (one at a time in order to isolate the leak). Once we find the leak and depending on where it is and how much water we use to find the leak, we should be able to turn the distribution system back on except for the area in the vicinity of the leak. It will be a number of days as this is still the driest season for our trench and well system.

As a result of the leak, we pumped our trench and well system dry causing a great amount of sediment to be present. If during the weekend you have water pressure (during our testing for instance) we recommend that you do not drink the water. We expect it to have high chlorine content and it may not look very attractive. We will let you know when we have solved the problem and flushed our system.

The fire department has been notified and they have other contingencies in place for an emergency should water be needed.

We will keep you informed of our progress and give you notice of when the water will be back on. Dan Riblett, our Water Manager and Consultant will be on top of our situation until it is resolved.

Thanks for your patience.

Sincerely,

Tom Carmody
