Dear Kachess Community Residents,
As reported this weekend, we had a small leak in our water system. As best we could tell, we were losing somewhere in the vicinity
of 10,000 gallons of water per day. This leak is about equivelant to what our daily usage is under normal circumstances. The bad
news is the problem is growing and now could be as large as 30,000 or more gallons of water per day. This is about 20 gallons per
minute and is approaching the leak we had about two months ago.
This leak is small enough it could be occurring in just one residence with a main line under pressure. It is also of a size that
it could be in one of our main lines or a line feeding a residence. If it is underground, with 3 feet of snow covering it, it is
not going to be easy to find.
Actions we will be taking
-
for the last two months, we have been taking daily water consumption readings. This is what is giving our early awareness of the
problem thanks to the volunteer efforts of Bill Cambell
-
we will continue to monitor readings through out the days coming until we find the leak
-
we will begin isolating sections of the community and use the process of elimination to try and determine which section or road might
have the problem
-
then go house by house if we find the road section
-
In the meantime, we will go house to house looking for obvious signs and looking for water surfacing or other irregularities
What we need from you
While last fall we increase the output of the trenches and our supply capability, this level of leak will tax our system and pumps
as we are running our pump at 20 hours per day to keep up. This output and demand may not be sustainable. Second, the size of the
leak has increased…and could grow depending on what is going on.
-
please check your house, if you can’t, please find someone who can
-
if you notice any irregularities in your cabin (air in lines, low pressure, excess turbidity, etc, please notify us. You could
be in the proximity of the damaged area
-
anything suspicious should be reported…it may be nothing, or it may be something
We will be doing what we can to try and find the leak…..but with snow on the ground, the job is not easy. Anything we can do to
eliminate residences from the equation only makes the job easier.
Please respond to the water committee at water@kachess.com
